Notes for Mary Jane Lambert: Mary Jane came to the U.S. in 1845 from England with her parents George and Sarah (Powell) Lambert. I first located her with her parents in the 1850 St. Louis, Mo. Census, her age was listed as 10 years old and Born in England. Her sister Caroline was listed as age 5 and her brother Richard was listed as age 3. I believe she lied about her age after Martin and Mary Jane moved to S. Dakota, because in 1860 Census in St. Louis Mary Jane worked as a Servant and her age was listed as 20 and Born in England. Mary Janes father died when she was 12 and her Mother Married a James Campbell, James had worked for her father on the Lambert Dairy Farm in St. Louis, Missouri. Mary Jane was 6 years older than her husband Martin. It is my belief that in fact Mary Jane used her sisters birthday and it was actually Caroline who was Born at sea in 1845.
