Krom & Associated Families of Ulster County, New York

Updated June 18, 2006

About Our Family Research

Surnames: Krom, Crawford, Alsdorf, Barnhart, Churchwell, Frost, Lawrence, Mansfield, Gray, Tompkins.

This is the history of my family in the Township of Rochester and surrounding areas of Ulster County, New York. My Grandfather, Myron Charles Krom, left behind a box of photographs, about 200 and most of the photos were labeled. This box of photos set me on this quest to know who these people were.

The Krom & Crawford Families came across the vast ocean to a great unknown in the early 1600‘s, they came here for a variety of reasons and participated in the birth of America. Living in the colonial era was difficult and required lots of hard work, these people helped to tame a country. Many of our forbearers fought in the American Revolution, for the right to be free from England.

The Civil War was another defining event in the course of our great county. The Krom & Crawford Families participated in the Civil War. Johannes Alsdorf and Nelson Weeks (from the Crawford line) both served in the 56th regiment.

I hope you find this site useful.

  • Isaac Krom #3- Report of Isaac B Krom (1 KB)
This Isaac was a Tailor in Marbletown in 1850 & 1860. As I find more information on him I will update.
  • Krom Family Hypothosis - Report of Reuban Krom (33 KB)
My effort to discover who Isaac W Krom (my G-G-Grandfather) involves researching all Kroms in the Township of Rochester in Ulster County, New York. Rueban Krom is shown in the 1840 census with a male child between the ages of 15 & 20 living in his home, this falls in the correct age group to be Isaac. Since Reuban is 80 years of age, this child must be a grandchild. I am still trying to determine who he is.
  • Krom Family Hypothosis - Report of Lucas Krom (37 KB)
It is more likly that Lucas is the father of Isaac W Krom. He is shown in 1840 with a male child 15-20 living in his home. But the 1840 census also shows Lucas Jr with a male child between 15-20 living in his home. I am fairly certain that Isaac has always lived in Rochester, so one of these 3 children must be him.
  • Isaac Krom #2 - Report of George R Krom (5 KB)
There is a lot of confusion regarding Isaac Krom. There are 3 of them that live in Ulster County, New York. The Isaac found in this report was born in about 1828, lived in Marbletown. As I find out more information I will update
