Janos Jurasits (b. Oct 21, 1850, d. Feb 12, 1908)
Janos Jurasits (son of Georgius Jurasits, Jr. and Catharina Zimits) was born Oct 21, 1850 in Szentpeterfa, Vas, Austria-Hungary268, and died Feb 12, 1908 in Szentpeterfa, Vas, Austria-Hungary269. He married Rosalia Timar on Jan 27, 1875 in Szentpeterfa, Vas, Austria-Hungary270, daughter of Franciscus Timar and Elisabetha Filipovits.
Notes for Janos Jurasits:
His name is listed as Joannes Jurasics (not John Jurasits - no "h" in Johannes and a "c" instead of a "t" in Jurasits) in the Szentpeterfa, Vas, Austria-Hungary Church records for the birth of his daughter Theresa. "Janos Juresits" is how his name is spelled in the Hungarian language record of his birth from the 1850 Szentpeterfa Church records.
This reflects both the language differences evident in the community (in this case Hungarian versus German) and also just how variable surname spelling was at the time.
According to a story told by, Frankie Skrapits (Johannes' grandson via Anna (Jurasits) Skrapits), which was told to him by his mother, Johannes could be a tough disciplinarian at times. The children were all expected to work hard and were liable to receive corporal punishment if they misbehaved.
According to Frankie, when Johannes youngest son, John R. Jurasits, was preparing to leave for America, Johannes must have known that he would never see him again. He said to John R. "...come here and let me pull your ears one last time..." referring to the fact that he was known as a disciplinarian, albeit one who could apparently joke about it with his children.
