16. JOHN12 BALL (GEORGE11, MOSES BALL10 (SR.), JOHN9 BALL, RICHARD8, WILLIAM7, CAPTAIN WILLIAM6, JOHN5, JOHN4, WILLIAM3, ROBERT2, WILLIAM1) was born June 10, 1779 in Fairfax Co., Va., and died Abt. November 1809 in Lee County, Va.. He married MARY (POLLY) YEARY 1784, daughter of HENRY YEARY and ELIZABETH CROXSTOL.

Notes for JOHN BALL:
       Eventually the Balls and Yearys settled in Powell Valley in western Lee Co., Va., where they became large land owners and citizens of wealth and importance in the county.
       His will was dated Sept. 17, 1809 and was proved in Lee County, VA, on November 28, 1809.
       As a Revolutionary War soldier, his name is listed in the records of Botetourt Co., VA, as being in Captain Barnett's Co. as the 7th district.
       John Ball owned land on the south side of Indian Creek in the vacinity of Ewing, VA. He and his brother Moses, purchased land containing 400 acres from Joseph Martin on Oct. 8, 1802.       
       He was buried at the mouth of a cave on his property (now known as the Clifton Neff farm). He requested that he be buried at the cave as his life was saved many years before when he hid in the cave during an Indian raid.
