Liming, Lyming, Lyminge, Lymings, and other variations.
We are searching for siblings and ancestors of John Lyming, Lyning who sailed from Port of Bristol in 1661 to Nevis Island, Leeward Islands of the Caribbean West Indies, on ship Nevis Merchant, then to New Jersey where his decendents are well documented.
[Coldham, Peter Wilson, The Bristol Registers of Servants Sent to Foreign Plantations, pg.159] The following apprenticed in Briston: Robert Hedges to James Cole, 4 years NEVIS; Arthur Evitt, yeoman to Charles Kelly, 4 years Nevis; JOHN LYNING to JOSEPH HARDWICK, 8 years Nevis; Nathaniell Linley to John Wintle, 5 years Virginia; Thomas Broadrish to John Reede, 3 years Virginia; William Church to John Pearson, 5 years Virginia; Anne Roynolds to Martha Braine, 5 years Virginia; Thomas Reynolds to same, 9 years Virginia; Henry Francklin to same, 6 years Virginia. (BR = Bristol Registers of Servants sent to Foreign Plantations 1654-1686, ed. Peter Wilson Coldham, Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1988.)
NOTE: The Lyning name can be found in Sweden, England as well as America. I now question that John Lyning on ship Nevis Merchant is our John. Sam Leming makes reference to "Dover list of imigrants 1665" as well as "Ship Gabriel." Can anyone identify these refernces?
