1. JOHN¹ LISKA was born July 12, 1879 in Bowouow, East Galicia, Austria ¹, and died September 1, 1934 in Bienfait, Sask.¹. He married SOPHIA STANGRET August 7, 1911 in Estevan, Saskatchewan, daughter of MICHAEL STANGRET and HELEN HUMENUIK.

Originally a subject of Poland, and his parents were from Poland
John was married before he met Sophia Stangret and had a son from that first marriage. The son's name was Fred.
In Europe John trained horses for the Army. See Facts page.

Missing the second finger on his right hand.
At the age of 51 he received his Canadian citizenship.

Notes for SOPHIA STANGRET:
      Sophia Stangret met John Liska in New York. John was unable to find employment so he immigrated to Canada. At a mine near Estevan he got a job and then sent for Sophia, whom he married August 11, 1911 in Estevan.
Sophia immigrated to the United States in 1909 and landed at New York. She came to Canada through the port of North Portal, and was accompanied by her sister's (Teklia) husband, Mike Vizniowski.
John Liska later shot himself, and left Sophia to raise ten childern, in 1933 approximately .
