Ancestors of Jennifer Ruth McKillip

      22. Joseph Julien, born Bet. Jun 1834 - May 1835 in Canada188,189; died Bet. 16 Jun 1880 - 11 Jun 1900189,190. He was the son of 44. Francoise Julien and 45. Louise Plamondon. He married 23. Carolina Bourget Abt. 1856191.

      23. Carolina Bourget, born Bet. Jun 1834 - May 1835 in Canada192,193; died Aft. 11 Jun 1900194. She was the daughter of 46. David Bourget and 47. Angela Varret.

Notes for Joseph Julien:
It would appear that the Julien family moved from Canada to the US between 1870 and 1872. Florence was born in Canada and the next youngest child, Hanje, was born in Massachusetts. Virginie was born in 1876 in Illinois. Did the family actually settle in Massachusetts for a while or was Hanje born during the move?

More About Joseph Julien:
Census: 1880, Chicago, Cook, IL195
Immigration: Bet. 1870 - 1872, Based on the birth dates and places of children Florence and Hanje, it appears that the Julien family moved from Canada to the US during this period.
Occupation: Jun 1880, Carpenter195
Residence: Jun 1880, 404 Blue Island Ave, Chicago, Cook, IL195

  Notes for Carolina Bourget:
In the 1900 Cook County, IL census, Caroline is shown living with her daughter Florence and her husband Albert Jacobs. Caroline's son and Florence's brother Charles is also living with the Jacobs.

She also states that she immigrated in 1873. Earlier conjecture places her immigration between Feb 1870 and May 1872 (Florence's birth date in Canada and the latest possible date for Hanje's birth in Massachusetts). Caroline's son Charles is listed as having been naturalized by the 1900 census. These documents may have a more accurate date.

More About Carolina Bourget:
Census: 1900, Chicago, Cook, IL196
Immigration: 1873196

Marriage Notes for Joseph Julien and Carolina Bourget:
Marriage date only a guess based on oldest child's birth year.

In the 1900 Cook County, IL census Caroline lists herself as a widow and the number of years for her marriage as "45". Had Joseph only recently died, was she counting years after his death, or is the marriage year off? It should be around 1854 or she would have been married before she was 20.

In the 1900 Cook County IL census, I found a George Julien living in the same building as Florence Julien Jacobs, Caroline Julien and Charles Julien. His dates look good for Frank but I haven't added them until I find some other name data. The census extract is in the Julien files.

  Notes for Charles J. Julien:

Charles, Daisy and Ruth had moved to Buffalo, NY where Charles was the manager of the Granger Farewell Lumber Yard. They wer staying with Prof. and Mrs D. S. Weinheimer when Ruth died of cholera. Four weeks later, Daisy had a nervous breakdown and subsequently died of a cerebral hemmorhage. Both Daisy and Ruth were burined in Chicago. Charles apparently then returned to Chicago.

In the 1900 Cook County, IL census, Charles is listed as a widowed. He is enumerated in the same house and living with his sister Florence and her husband Albert Jacobs.

vii.   Florence Julien210, born Feb 1870 in Canada211; died Aft. Jun 1900212; married Albert Jacobs Abt. 1895212; born Sep 1866 in New York212; died Aft. Jun 1900212.
  Notes for Florence Julien:
In the 1900 Cook County census, Florence lists her year of immigration as what looks to be 1878. I believe this date to be incorrect since her mother and brother list 1873 as the year of immigration. 1873 also fits the pattern of children birth dates and locations found in the 1880 census.

  More About Florence Julien:
Census 1: 1880, Chicago, Cook, IL213
Census 2: 1900, Chicago, Cook, IL214
Immigration: 1878, Believe this date to be incorrect.

  viii.   Hanje M. Julien215, born Bet. Jun 1871 - May 1872 in MA215; died Aft. Jun 1880215
  Notes for Hanje M. Julien:

Could the "Hanje" listed in the 1880 census be "Angela" that Ginnie Heinemann has as a child of Joseph and Caroline?

  More About Hanje M. Julien:
Name 2: Angela Julien216
Census: 1880, Chicago, Cook, IL217

11 ix.   Virginie Marie Julien, born 29 Feb 1876 in IL; died 29 Oct 1912; married David Burrell Bauld 24 Jul 1895 in Notre Dame de Chicago, Chicago, Cook, IL.
  x.   Julien218, died Bef. Jun 1900218
  Notes for Julien:
in the 1900 Cook County, IL census, Caroline states that she has had 10 children, only eight of which were alive at the time of the census. The Julien family only listed nine children at the 1880 census so it is unclear whether the 10th child was born before or after the 1880 census.

      24. Anton Stybr219, born 02 Jan 1829 in #4, Chynava, Bohemia/Chynava, Czech Republic220,221; died Abt. 1910222. He was the son of 48. Jan Stybr and 49. Veronika Petrikova. He married 25. Josephine Desort Abt. 1875.

      25. Josephine Desort222, born Abt. 1847 in Unhost, Czech Republic222,223; died Unknown. She was the daughter of 50. Josef Dezort and 51. Anna Stadrik.

Notes for Anton Stybr:
Anton and his family left from the port of Hamburg German aboard the steam ship "Columbia" in late September or early October 1891. The Columbia stopped in Southampton England but then landed in New York City on 26 October, 1891. On the passenger manifest, Anton was listed with his wife Josephine and sons Ladislav and Joseph (passengers 88-91). They listed Chynava, Bohemia as their hometown, Chicago was their destination and the trip was in fact for the purposes of immigration, not a visit. They traveled in steerage compartment B and had three pieces of luggage between them.

Her last Hamburg - Southampton - New York sailing commenced on 14/10/1897 and in 1898 she was sold to the Spanish government for use as a troopship and auxiliary for the Spanish - American War and renamed "Rapido". In 1899 she was repurchased by Hamburg America Line, went back to her original name of "Columbia" and on 31/8/1899, commenced sailing between Hamburg, Southampton, Cherbourg and New York.
