This web site traces the LODICO descendants from the Madonie Region of Sicily:
My LODICO ancestry began in the 'quartiere' [quarter] known as Malpasso, in what was the 'frazione' [fraction] of Blufi in the town of Petralia Soprana, Sicily.
The origins of the LODICO family began around the mid 1600s when the Marchese Pottino hired the campiere family of LODICOs to protect the ancient road from Catania to Palermo that passed through Blufi in the region known as Malpasso. In return for their protection of the travelers on the road, the Marchese granted the LODICOs the area known as Malpasso.
Cristofaro LoDico was my (7x) great grandfather. His descendants settled in Petralia Soprana, Bompietro and Marianopoli, before emmigrating to America.
Cristofaro's grandson DOMENICO settled in Petralia Soprana and after 1865 purchased the former church lands between Petralia Soprana and Gangi known as Santa Caterina LoDico. A few descendants still live there today. There is a salt mine and cheese factory in this current 'frazione' of Petralia Soprana.
Descendants from the LODICO family settled throughout the Madonie Region: in Petralia Soprana, Bompietro, Pianello, Locati, Petralia Sottana, Gangi and Marianopoli. Some migrated further south and west to Valledolmo, Santa Caterina Villarmosa, Canicatti and Ioppolo Giancaxio.
