Includes NotesNotes for William Monroe Cottom:

Denmark Baptist Church celebrated its 150th anniversary in 1998. It was started in the home of E.T. Rees. It remained a home church for several years until the Presbyterian church closed and sold it's building to Denmark Baptist Church. In 1901 Denmark built their own building and began worshipping in it in 1902. However on a Sunday afternoon in 1942 it was struck by lightning and burned to the ground. The Scripture for the sermon that morning had been Romans 8:28: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." A new building was built and dedicated on May 2, 1943(see picture above). In 1961 the church voted to build a new parsonage, which is the existing parsonage. In 1970 an addition to the building was dedicated. In 1986 the church decided to remodel the sanctuary, and later stained glass windows were put in depicting the life of Christ.

The history of Denmark Baptist Church is far more complex than the short paragraph above, but the history of the hearts and dedication of the members, pastors, and ministries of Denmark Baptist Church can be witnessed through the eyes of the place in which we worship. The past is nice to remember, the future is glorious to behold. Come be a part of our future as we keep our eyes focused on Christ.
