Walter Cottom, 75, of Ava, passed away February 25, 1985 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
He was a farmer and of the Baptist faith. He was born July 3, 1909 in Perry County, Illinois to
Simon and Emma Sandusky Cottom. He married Wilma Modglin in Marion December 4, 1934. She
preceded him in death April 18, 1974. He is survived by two sons, Lavern Cottom and Leroy Cottom of Ava, three daughters, Delores Bauersachs of Campbell Hill, Mildred Bauersachs of Pinckneyville and Margery Davis of Ava; 12 grandchildren; three brothers, William Cottom of Maquon, Illinois, Earl Cottom of Galesburg, IL and Harold Cottom of Oneida, Illinois and two sisters, Lula Higgerson of Pinckneyville, IL and Ruth Bultemeier of Avon, Illinois. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Belva Kelley and Grace Higgerson and three half- sisters,Minnie Koen, Bertha Speith, and Elsie Russell. Funeral services will be
held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday (today), February 28, 1985 at the Wilson Funeral Home in Ava with Rev.
Granvil Akin officiating. Burial will be in the Ava Evergreen Cemetery
