Notes for Daniel Sills: Daniel Jr. married Mary Catherine Dick, the daughter of Uriah Dick, on February 13, 1868. Mary Catherine was born September 8, 1845. Daniel Jr. attended school at the Helm Corner House in Chester Township, Wells County, Indiana, until he became 20 years of age. The longest term for school in those times was 3 months, and did not get to go more than half that time in any term. He remained with his father who claimed his wages until he was 21 years of age. In 1865, he went to Iowa and remained there for one year. Except for the year in Iowa, he remained working in the home neighborhood living with his parents until he was 25 years old, when he married. They settled 2 and 1/2 miles south of Montpelier, Indiana, living there for 18 months, then moving onto the farm where he was born. He lived the rest of his life on the home place, 3 miles west and 1/2 mile north of Montpelier in Wells County. He also owned an ran a threshing machine in season for 35 years and had done some sawmilling. He owned 350 acres of land, 88 being on the home place and the rest in Blackford County. He received 600 dollars from his father as a start in married life.
