Goldie Marie Miller

RAVEN, Va. Minister Goldie Marie Miller, age 79, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004,
at a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Big Creek, Va., and was a daughter of the late James F. and
Maude Keen Mabe, both Tazewell County natives. She was a lifelong resident of
the Raven area and was a former employee of the Clinch Valley Medical Center in
Richlands. She was a member of the Red Ash Pentecostal Church at Red Ash, Va. In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Mr.
Walter Thomas Smith; second husband, Mr. Andy Edward Smith; third husband,
Minister Julius Miller; one infant son; two daughters, Catherine Smith and
Geneva Cox; two sisters, Opal Cook and Pauline Mabe; and two brothers, Roy Mabe
and James Sylvester Mabe.

Survivors are: four daughters, Mrs. Bernice Pruett of Raven, Mrs. Louvonne Davis
and husband, Garland of Raven, Mrs. Betty Osborne and husband, Joe of Cliffield,
Va., and Mrs. Charlotte Osborne and husband, Jay of Cliffield; three sons, Mr.
Morris Don Smith and wife, Velma of Raven, Mr. David Smith and wife, Linda of
Raven and Mr. Walter Smith and wife, Brenda of Cedar Bluff; two sisters, Mrs.
Emily Armstrong of Richlands and Mrs. Edna Byrd and husband, Arch of Richlands;
one brother, Mr. Doug Keen of Raven; 29 grandchildren; and 33 great-
grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Minister Goldie Marie Miller will be conducted Friday at 2
p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, with Rev. Dannie Short and
Rev. Darrell Sutherland officiating. Entombment will follow in the Clinch Valley
Memorial Cemetery in Richlands. Pallbearers will be: Donald Cox, Tommy Vandyke,
Don Smith Jr., Adam Smith, Keith Smith, Andy Kitts, Bobby Smith, Darrell Brown,
Joshua Shelton, Billy Shelton II and Tony Davis. Honorary pallbearers: Phil
Mabe, Leslie Davis, Jack Smith, B. J. Vandyke, Timmy Cook and Darrell Cordill.
Friends may call at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands after 6 p.m.
Thursday.

2886. JAMES SYLVESTER8 MABE (JAMES F.7, WILLIAM R.6, JOSEPH ANDERSON5, ABNER4, REUBEN3, JOHN2, WILLIAM1) was born October 27, 1928 in Virginia, and died June 17, 2004 in Richlands, Virginia. He married DORTHA WINGO Abt. 1948, daughter of JAMES WINGO and OLLIE LANKFORD.

AMES SYLVESTER MABE:
James Sylvester Mabe, 75, of Richlands, went to be with the Lord June 17 at a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born in Tazewell County, he was a son of the late James Franklin and Maude Ellen Keen Mabe, both Tazewell County natives.

He was a life long resident of the Richlands area, was a former employee of M. O. Warner, and a retired tipple operator with Permac Coal Company. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving in the Occupation of Germany after World War II and responded to the Korean War in the early 1950s.

He attended Trinity Assembly of God Church at Cedar Bluff.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Lee Mabe, sister, Opal Cook, and an infant sister, Paulene.

Survivors: is devoted wife of 56 years, Dortha Wingo Mabe; daughter, Patricia Fay Lockhart and husband, Billy, of Yorktown, Phil S. Mabe of Richlands, Ronnie W. Mabe and wife, Cathy, of Rock Hill, SC; Edna Byrd, Goldie Miller, and Emily Armstrong, all of Richlands; brother, Doug Keen of Richlands; grandchildren, Joshua Mabe, Jennifer Mabe, Katrina Farrow, Kristy Corbett, and Kevin Lockhart; even great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was conducted June 19 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Ethel Watson and Rev. Danny Bostic officiating.

Interment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

VFW Post #9640 of Richlands and Disabled American Veterans Tazewell County Chapter #31 conducted military graveside rites.

Emily Mabe Armstrong
Emily Mabe Armstrong, 75, of Richlands, was called to be with the Lord February 27 in a Tazewell hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born November 30, 1932 in Richlands and was the daughter of the late James Franklin and Maudie Keen Mabe, both former Tazewell County natives.
She was a graduate of Richlands High School and was a former employee of Eastern Isles in Richlands and of General Instrument Corporation in Tazewell. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Lloyd Armstrong; four sisters, Opal Cook, Goldie Miller, Edna Byrd and Pauline Mabe; and three brothers, Roy Lee Mabe, James Mabe and Roy Keen.
Survivors: daughter, Erion Nicole Armstrong of Richlands; sons, Billy Dale Armstrong and friend, Shirley Perry, of Richlands, James Daniel Armstrong and special friend, Crystal Proffitt, of Vansant; ex-daughter-in-law, Carrie Armstrong of Tazewell; brother, Roy Douglas Keen of Richlands; grandchildren, Erica Mae Armstrong, Cheyane Armstrong, Sabrina Armstrong, Shandi Armstrong, Melissa Armstrong, James Armstrong, Jr., Sissy Armstrong, and Jessie Armstrong; three great grandchildren; and special friends of the GOLD staff, Regina and Dixie.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. March 3 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with the Rev. Phillip Horton officiating.
Interment followed in Hankins Cemetery in Richlands.
