ENDNOTES

Samuel Marshall was the second child of John Marshall (about 1761-1806) and Catharina Truby Rohrer Marshall (about 1764 to 1806).  He was born in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and reared by his Aunt Mary Ann Truby Hovey after the untimely death of his parents.  He married Phebe Perry (1803-1885) of Scrubgrass Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania.  Marshall died at age 33 in Perry Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, leaving his widow and four children: Simeon Hovey Marshall, Sarah L. Marshall (McGough), Isabelle Marshall (Phipps), and Martha P. Marshall (Welsh).  These children in time would marry Mary Jane Hoover, Peter McGough, Jesse Phipps, and Walter Welsh.

Alba Robinson, listed sometimes as Albe, was Albegence Robinson (1790-1845), the brother of Elisha Robinson, husband of Marshall’s half-sister Elizabeth Rohrer Robinson.  He and his wife lie buried in the Hovey-Robinson plot of the Parker Presbyterian Cemetery, a few feet from Samuel Marshall’s grave.

Elisha Bailey (1805-1883) was Marshall’s brother-in-law, the husband of his younger sister Mary Ann Marshall (1804-1895).

Phebe Perry Marshall (1803-1885) was Marshall’s widow.  She was the daughter of Moses Perry (1774-1848) of Scrubgrass Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, where he settled in about 1799, and Sarah Russell (1777-1850).  Sometime after her husband’s death, Phebe served as Postmistress of Lawrenceburg, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania.  She moved in time back to Venango County where she died at age 82 years in the home of her daughter, Martha P. Marshall Welsh of Franklin, Pennsylvania.

David Perry (1811-1892) was a brother of Phebe Perry Marshall.

Martha P. Marshall Welsh was born 05 June 1834.  She was the wife of Dr. Walter Welsh.  Her mother Phebe Marshall made her home with the Welsh Family from at least 1860 until the time of her death.

25 February 1835 is the approximate date of Samuel Marshall’s death at the age of 33; note the purchases around that date in document “B” above.  His brother Andrew died in 1832 at the age of 31.  Marshall’s brother John lived until 1889 and died at the age of 86.  His sister Mary Ann Bailey died at age 90 in 1895. His half sister, Elizabeth Rohrer Robinson died at age 89 in 1881, and his half-brother Frederick Augustus Robinson died at age 87 in 1882.
