Notes for W
From the McNairy County Independent, (local newspaper of Ramer) we glean the following items:

July 7, 1922, W. A. Petree came very near having a serious, and possibly fatal, accident late Tuesday afternoon when a northbound freight struck the Ford roadster which he was driving. He had his little two year old daughter in the car with him and failing to note the approach of the train, drove upon the crossing. In an effort to make it across he killed the engine. He then jumped with the baby and pulled the car partly off of the track before the train struck, damaging the front wheels and steering apparatus. This is a very dangerous crossing, the depot obstructing the view toward the north, so it is difficult to see the approach of a train.

Nov 24, 1922, McNairy County is soon to have a real commercial poultry farm. Mr. Petree of Ramer is installing the necessary plant to care for 1200 hens. He already has modern conveniences for hatching and raising chicks. With good business management we see no reason why this is not just as good poultry country as any that can be found.

June 15, 1945, Ramer - W. A. Petree - A large number of sorrowing friends assembled in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church Saturday afternoon to pay tribute to a well known and highly respected citizen, W. A. Petree, who passed away in a Corinth hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Petree (the former Sarah Goins) moved to this part of the country from Alabama shortly after their marriage. By energy and thrift they accumulate a competence, reared and educated a family, and at the time of his death he was operating a farm at Michie. He was a resident of Ramer until recent years, and contributed to the building of the community. He was 71 years of age, and an active member of the Church of Christ. ..........the funeral was conducted by Elder Mills, of the Action Church of Christ, and interment was in the Ramer cemetery.
