Charles Portland Lindsay was born September 7, 1911 Linden, Franklin, Ohio. His father was Charles Lester Lindsay b: May 14, 1890 d: November 11, 1961, Mother was Hazel (Susie) Ruth Atwood b: 1893 d: November 2, 1960. Charles, nicknamed "Bus" married Doris Mae Whaley. He met Doris while his family was working in North Collins, New York building railroad trestles in North Collins and Jamestown, New York. They returned to Columbus, Ohio and raised a family of three, Richard, Phyllis and Sally.
