OLLY S. BARBAREE:
Family Story from Leta Mae Beckum (Marshall family descendant):
Molly S. Barbaree, known as "Betsy," was the illegitimate daughter of "Big Jack" Weeks, who died of typhoid fever. At the funeral, Isaac Weeks (father of Big Jack), asked the mother (unknown) for Betsy and her mother agreed. When she grew up Betsy ran off with Martin Lonzo Hidle to marry. But Isaac went after her on a mule. "She raised cane at him all the way home." Isaac told her if she did it again he wouldn't go after her. She ran off with Martin Lonzo Hidle again, and they got married.

Betsy and her infant son died shortly after the baby's birth, leaving Martin Hidle a widower with two daughters. Grandson Faro Morgan (on Jan. 15, 1996) identified the approximate location of Betsy's grave and said his mother, Bama Hidle Morgan, said her mother was a Barbaree, and that after she died they stayed with a Weeks family.
