Margaret Jane Mawhor, daughter of John and Mary Scott, was born in Glasgow, Scotland, March 29, 1840 and departed this life April 29, 1933 at the age of 93 years. The deceased came to America when quite young. She was married to George Mawhor October 31, 1861. They settled in California, where they lived several years when they moved to Fremont County, Iowa on a farm where they remained until the husbands death January 26, 1905. To this union were born nine children namely Jennie, wife of R. E. Jones, Sumner, Missouri, W. J. Mawhor and Ellen, wife of J. A. Cruse all of Riverton, Iowa. Mary, wife of Hiram Henry of Montevallo, Missouri, and Catherine, wife of T. S. Jones of Sampsel, Missouri. She was a member of the Presbyterian church several years ago, but when they moved to Iowa there was no organization of that church near the house, so she joined the M. E. church and was a courteous member until death. She had been in poor health the last two and half years. She was a faithful wife and loving mother. The funeral was held at Mount Zion church, Tuesday at 10 AM, May 2, by Rev. D. M. Gillett, burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
