York, also counted was Josiah Lewis Hill; copy from Carole Paprocki. brother Calvin Hill was on other side of Lake Champlain, still in Vt. * it is presumed, from Oh records that Calvin and Solomon did not get along, as Calvin always lived in another county, while Josiah Lewis & Solomon remained together everywhere, and families were close friends. by 1810-11 Solomon had moved to Richland Co, OH: Pioneer - on Black Fork River; Western Reserve territory. the families were all squatters for 2-4 years; Richland Co. land records start in 1813, after Solomon Hill had died. Their archives did not have any listing of land for Solomon Hill. Richland Co. Courthouse,Mansfield, no estate records, since he died before "official" records began. Jun 4 1812 - died at his home in Perrysville, after bee hunting with his friends - Greentown or Delaware Indians (both tried to remain neutral in War of 1812); he laid down to rest after canoeing & walking, & died in his sleep before dinner. 1st burial in First Presbyterian Church of Perrysville Cemetery, founded by his son Harvey's wife Abigail Coulter's father, Judge Thomas Coulter who gave land for church and cemetery. Harvey later built the Church\ Indians came down Black Fork River, to lay evergreens on the wagonbed Solomon Hill was buried in. (no lumber for coffin) Accounts of different families all said that the Indians stood watching in amazement when white men put Solomon's body into a hole in the ground, instead of using a funeral pyre. The account written by Harvey's daughter Angelina Hill about her parents attending the Greentown Indian Festivities just after they were married, is a lead that Solomon was friends with that village tribe, who were moved west by the government. Melzar Tannehill, a relative of Coulter family, wrote in his Historical account that Coulters and Hills were friends with the Delaware tribe, which was SW of Richland Co. Only men attended Solomon's funeral; the rest of the families were in the Coulter blockhouse, as protection of other Indian tribes who were hostile. Men stood guard watch over the grave of Solomon Hill, for fear that hostile Indians would dig up the body for scalp. They were not worried about their friendly tribes, but of others. [the body & grave were later moved, as it was in the middle of the new road-way. Solomon Hill's grave is the closest to the fence on Main Street, in Perrysville.] Src: First Presbyterian Church, records of Rev. Trew Petty (Pettie), who was Solomon's son-in-law and the traveling preacher of the territory. -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Land Documentation from: General Services Center Reference/Research Section, Drawer 33, Montpelier, VT 05633-7601; location US Rt. 2, Middlesex Co, VT - sent land document copies of Mary, Elizabeth, & Solomon Hill, Jr, births recorded in Middletown Springs, VT. ?
