1.      Richard Jones, formerly from Farmington, was one of the first settlers of Haddam. He was given 8 acres on the Connecticut River in the Lower Plantation between the propety of John Wiatt and William Ventros.

2.      He is probably the Richard Jones, age 23, whown to arrive in the colonies in 1635 (see the COMPLETE BOOK OF EMIGRANTS, 1607-1660, by Peter Wilson Coldham, Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. Baltimore: 1987.

3.      While residing in Farmington, he lived on lots 72 & 73, not far from David Carpenter, who lived on lot 92. See FARMINGTON IN CONNECTICUT by Christopher P. Bickford, published by the Farmington Historical Society.

4.      Mary Wheeler Sherman, sister of Elizabeth, defended Mary Staples, who was accused by Goody Knapp of being a witch. Knapp was hanged. See IN FAIRFIELD, the biography of a Communty - 1639 -1989 - by Thomas J. Farmham.

5.      According to Donna Holt Siemiatkoski in "Connecticut's Early Welsh Community", THE CONNECTICUT NUTMEGGER, vol 25, No. 4, March 1993, Published by Connecticut Society of Genealogists, Richard Jones of Haddam was from Wales (p. 556.).

6.      Richard Jones was one of the founding members of the FIRST CONGREATIONAL CHURCH of Haddam, CT. According to the 1902 publication of the church, Richard Jones arrived in Haddam during the summer of 1662. He came from in or around Hartford.

7.      Jones owned lot 8A in Rivertown (Haddam). See PORTRAIT OF RIVERTOWN (HADDAM) by Janice P. Cunningham & Elixabeth A. Warner.

8.      According to the AMERICAN & NEW HAVEN GENEALOGICA MAGAZINE, Vol II, p. 180-1, found in CT Archieves, Hartford VII, 288 -- Richard Jones arrived in Haddam in August of 1670. The same publication describes a 1747 suit filed by the heirs of Richard Jones against the town of Haddam to recover land siezed by the town when Jones died intestate. The family won a settlement.
