Notes from James Harold McFeggan
David and his family lived in a tent situated on the King and Whittal (50 acres) one mile from where Quinn Hall now stands and approximately two miles from Tilbury.

Mrs. Leonard Lee living at Earl Staceys (valleta) at the time informed me that it was the year of 1882 that David and family moved to the Tilbury area, and that they lived on this property in a test and that David had left land for the Quinn church to be built on but somehow never came about.

Then later sold this farm and purchased a 50 acre farm at the north end of the 15th and 15th sideroad onthe 8th concession Tilbury East Twp. from a Mr. Mark Greives. This farm has two children buried at the edge of the road - a boy and a girl who died of diptheria.

On the same farm, their was a grove where they held sunday picnics and played baseball. The farm is now owned by the Davidson family.

David was a local preacher and a Sunday school superintendent and would walk to Comber on Saturday night staying at Mr. aand Mrs. Leonard Lee's home then after services would walk home. David would go anywhere he felt he was needed to do with the church. David made the first pulpit and chair that was used for services at the Quinn church.

Obituary
A few weeks ago David McFeggan passed away at his heavenly home and while a brief notice of the event, and of the services in connection with his burial was given in this paper, we feel that a more lengthly reference to this life and work in this vicinity would not be out of place.

Like many others around Quinn, Mr. McFeggan often spoke of Hamilton as "down home" for from that place he came here when Quinn was all bush, and the pioneers began to cut down the trees, clear the land and make for themselves a home. One of the first things that came to his mind, was the conviction of the need of a Sunday school, and a church.

He was a man of "good report." At the funeral service Dr. Fothergill took as his text the words spoken by Joseph of Aremathea, "he was a good man" and it was felt that no words could better express the character of him who had just passed into his rest. There is no need here to speak of him as a husband and a father, or a citizen, for though "dead his works follow him," and speak louder that can pen and ink. Such men never die; we pay our last loving tribute to him and as "one soweth and another reapeth," so we remember that we are now enjoying the happy results of years of labor spent for his master.

Along with one or two more deceased started a Sunday school in a private house and occasionally held preaching services, until in course of time the little church was built. He was one of the prime movers in erecting that church, and along with Rev. Dr. Fothergill he canvassed the membership for ?? with which to repair and decorate the same buildings and make it the attractive church it is as present. As a local precaher he was earnest and faithful, and labored nobly in many a church in this surrounding district in which he was so affectionately remembered. The christian cause at Quinn, as well as many others, leave abundant reasons for which to remember him and hand down his name to their children.

HOEBE ELIZABETH FRASER:
On Sunday, June 15th, Mrs. David McFeggan, ????that is mortal, ????of the "immortal;" ?? suffering from lung trouble, but her most intimaate friends has no??? because of the angel of death claiming ???August 31, 1846. in the village of Glanford, Wentworth Co., Ontario. She was a very bright student and had the confidence of her teachers and their best wishes; she posessed a high moral nature, and early in life she joined the Methodist church, where she made her influence greatly felt. In 1870 she was married to the late David McFeggan, who pre-deceased her two years ago.

Thirty-one years ago they moved into the township of Tilbury East, whn they settled ? a farm east of Quida. She was at a very earnest and aggressive woman and possessed good business ability; she strived to set a good example before her family, and to teach them by precept and example, the real meaning of life; she was a devoted mother, and her chief aim was, "What can I do for the best interests of my family?" She spared not herself for their welfare; she was held in very high esteem by her neighbors and all who knew her - to know her meant to admire and esteem her.

The funeral sermon was preached by her pastor, Rev. Dr. Brown, on Tuesday, June 17; the remains were interred int he Shanks cemetary, lake shore. A very large crowd attended the funeral procession. She leaves behind a very sorrowful daughter, Mrs. McCorkindale, and two sons, John and James, all living near the old homestead.

Those who attended the funeral from a distance were: Dr. Fraser of Port Huron, Michigan and Miss Annie Fraser of Toronto. The entire community extend their sympathy to the bereaved family.
