Marriage Notes for G
EORGE MCKEAN and SARAH HORNER:
The following extract regarding the admission of the McKean boys is from the Barnardo Home records:

Full agreement with Canada clause assigned by sister [of Mrs McKean] Mrs Mary Ann Gilmore. These orphan boys have been admitted on application of Miss E. Purvis, lady superintendent of the nursing Association, Middleborough, who filled out a question from supplying the following information:

Father, McKean,[sic] was foreman at the Middleborough gaswork and died two years ago from the result of an accident. The relatives are mostly decent, hard working people who have a good reputation in the town, but none of them are very well off. We are not told how the mother maintained herself after her husband's death. She became broken down in health and for some months was under the care of the district nurse, her suffering at times being very severe. It is said that a more patient or gentle woman a nurse never had. It had been her great wish that the boys be sent to Dr Barnardo and when the promise was given, she said "I am glad, now I can die happy. My poor boys will be cared for." Her death took place on October 18, 1899.
The relatives were all anxious that the boys should be admitted and propose sending annually a small sum to the Home towards their support. The boys are certified to be in excellent health. They have had to measles
