Mrs. S. J. Swisher Dies at Bellview

Mrs. Samantha Jane Haun Swisher, widow of John Nelson Swisher, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Radcliff, at Bellview, at 3: 15 o’clock. The deceased was a well known woman with many friends.
She was a daughter of Mr. And Mrs. N. P. Haun and was born November 14, 1859. Her marriage to Mr. Swisher took place in 1878. His death occurred September 13, 1907. The surviving children are, Mrs. Charles Barker, of Barrackville; Mrs. Charles Radcliff, of Fairmont; Guy Swisher, of Fairmont; French Swisher of Fairmont; Hyson and John Swisher of Catawba.
Short services will be held at the residence of Mrs. C. E. Radcliff, Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock and the body will be taken to the church at Catawba where services will be held at 3 o’clock previous to the interment. R. C. Jones is the undertaker in charge.

J.N. Swisher, aged 55 years, died Friday evening Sept. 13, 1907 at his home in Catawba after several days of illness. He is survived by his wife and the following children, Mrs. Charles Baker, of Grangeville, Ohio; Miss Sadie Swisher, French, John, Guy and Hyson Swisher all at home.
Burial was at Catawba Cemetery.

ARTHA SALINA HAUN:
      Mrs. Martha Swisher, aged 77 years, widow of U. G. Swisher, whose death
occurred at 5:30 0'clock yesterday morning, in her home in Catawba, will be
laid to rest Friday afternoon. Short services will be held in the
residence at 1:30 o'clock and another service in Catawba at 2:30 o'clock,
with burial in the Catawba Cemetery by R. C. Jones. She was a member of
the Catawba Methodist church.
      Mrs. Swisher had been ill a long while. She was a daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Norvel Haun of Catawba. She was married march 11, 1885 to Mr.
Swisher, who died eight years ago.
      Eight children were born to them, seven of whom are living. They are
Alsie, Dale, Mary, and Mrs. Cora Waters, who reside at home; Mrs. Jettie
Swisher (should be Fisher) of Mt. Harmony and Carl Swisher and Lake Swisher
of Catawba. One daughter , Mrs. Mae Swisher Price, died in 1919. Nineteen
grandchildren and three great grandchildren also are living. A
granddaughter, Kathleen Waters, resides in the Swisher home. Two
grandchildren, Meryle and Elmer, reared in the Swisher home, are dead.
      One brother, George C. Haun, of Morgantown, survives. A number of
brothers and sisters are dead.

Mrs. Brown Dies
Mrs. Alice Ellen Brown, aged 62 years, and wife of Jesse A. Brown, died at her home on Hartley Hill, near Worthington; at 10:15 Thursday morning following a heart attack and complications. Mrs. Brown had been in declining health for a number of years.
She was a highly respected woman and for many years had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Catawba. Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, and the following children: Mrs. Beatrice Thorne, Mrs. Edith Murray, Jesse Brooks Brown, Walter Wayne Brown. One child Willis Ray Brown is deceased. Two sisters, Sarah Harris and Lennie Swisher both of Catawba and one brother, George C. Haun of Morgantown survive. Four grandchildren are living.
Short funeral services will be held at the residence at 9 a.m. Sunday morning, after which the funeral party will go to Catawba where services will be conducted at 10:30 in the Methodist Episcopal Church. Burial will be made in the Catawba Cemetery by Harmer and son, of Shinnston.

Willis Brown
Unfortunate young man victim of gunning accident died Sunday Morning.
After lying at the Miners hospital in an unconscious state for thirty-six hours with a bullet lodged against the base of his brain, Willis Brown, aged 16 years, died at 3:00 Sunday morning. It was considered remarkable that the boy lived so many hours after receiving such an injury.While handling a gun in the back yard of his home at White Rock Friday morning the weapon accidentally was discharged and the bullet penetrated the boy's forehead, an inch and a half above his hight eye. It lodged against the brain, rendering the boy unconscious.
The boy was a son of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Brown of White Rock. He leaves two brothers, Brooks and Wayne Brown, and two sisters, Mrs. Herman Thorn and Edith. Undertaker Jenkins prepared the body for burial and took it last evening on the 4:30 train to Catawba to the home of the grandmother of the deceased, Mrs. Haun. The boy's mother was the formerly Miss Alice Haun.
The funeral will be held this afternoon at 3:30 from the Haun residence

  Notes for EDITH LUCILLE BROWN:
Edith Lucille Parrish, 97, of Route 2, Monumental, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at home.

She was born Oct. 28, 1902, in Fairmont, daughter of the late Jesse Allan and Alice Ellen Haun Brown.

She was a member of White Rock Community Church and was a pianist for years there and at Harter Hill Methodist Church. She loved crocheting, working crossword puzzles, writing poetry and reading, especially the Bible. She was a graduate of Fairmont Norma l School. She was a seamstress and managed a Goodwill Store in Beckley.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia P. Floyd and Ellen R. Martin, both of Monumental; a son, Earl W. "Buck" Parrish Jr., of Newark, Ohio; and 22 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, a great-grandchild, 11 stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-gr andchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Basil Murray; her second husband, Earl W. Parrish Sr.; a daughter, Glenda P. Gwinn; three brothers, Jesse Brooks Brown, Willis Brown and Walter Wayne Brown; and a sister, Beatrice Brown Thorne.

Friends may call at Dent Funeral Home, Farmington, from 7-9 p.m. Monday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, with the Revs. Hearl Jones and Louise Tennant officiating. Burial will be in Parrish Cemetery, ne ar Four States.
