John Cooper, Farragut Farmer Dies While Hauling Corn To Market

Funeral services for John Cooper 68, of Farragut, whose sudden death concurred Friday, when he succumbed to a heart attack, will be held 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist Church, Conducted by Rev. Henderson,Pastor.

Mr. Cooper was hauling a load of corn to the Farragut elevator, when he was stricken. He was found dead lying on the sidewalk at the edge of town. Some corn was thrown from the truck. It is possible that he was thrown from the truck when the vehicle struck a culvert.

Mr. Cooper had not      been feeling well for some time, but Friday morning he went to the John      Barnes farm northeast of Farragut, to bring a load of corn to town. He was compelled to stop in the loading of the truck, but apparently was all right when he drove away after the truck had been loaded.

Just what happened is not known. He was dead when found.

Mr. Cooper has resided in the Farragut community for many years. A number of years ago he retired from the farm and bought a home in Farragut where he has lived more or less a retired life.

He is survived by his wife, and nine children. He has four sons in the armed forces, three sons a son-in-law and a grandson are overseas.

Pvt. Everett Cooper who was wounded in Germany and who was recently returned to the states to a hospital in Vancouver, Wash. Is now en route home for his father's services. A daughter, Mrs. Chas. (Ruth) Kellogg of Pasadena, CA has arrived.

The children are Elmer Cooper of Shenandoah; Mrs. Forrest (Goldie) Hatton of Farragut, whose husband is in service in India; Asa Cooper, Farragut; Mrs. Steve (May) Lundy of Sidney; Pvt. Harold Cooper and Pvt. Everett Cooper of Riverton; Mrs. Chas. Kellogg of Pasadena, CA. Pvt. Virgil Cooper and Johnnie Cooper of Farragut.

John Thomas Cooper was born near Peru, NE. He lived in NE until 1897 when he came to Fremont County. IA

Mrs. Cooper's Funeral Held At Farragut

Funeral services for Mrs. Millie Cooper were held Sunday at the Methodist Church at Farragut, conducted by the Rev. Frank Considine and the Rev. George Campbell.

Millie Mart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs William Asa Mart was born Feb. 18, 1876, in Locust Grove Township. She would have been 81 years of age if she had lived until Feb 18. She died at Farragut at her home, December 13.
Most of her younger life was spent in Locust Grove Community where she attended the local school and Methodist Church.

She was married September 12, 1897, to John Thomas Cooper. They lived two years in NE, returning to IA to spend the remaining years. They retired and moved to Farragut in 1937.

To this union were born the following children: Elmer of Shenandoah, IA, Asa and Goldie Hatten of Farragut. May Lundy, Harold and Everett of Riiverton, Ruth Kellogg Of Pasadena, CA Virgil of Blockton, and Johnie of Aurora CO. One child died in infancy.

She also leaves one brother, Clint Mart of Farragut.

She joined the Farragut Methodist Church in 1945 by transfer from Locust Grove.

Funeral Services were held Monday For Harold Cooper

Harold Cooper of Riverton, IA died Friday, April 3, 1981 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha, NE. Following a brief illness. he had been taken by Life Flight Helicopter Service to the hospital in Omaha from the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, IA. He was 74 years of age.

Mr. Cooper was widely known as a member of the Old Time Entertainers, a musical group that played for residents in care centers through a wide area and also for many community gatherings. He was a Veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife Wilma of the home; one brother, Everett of Riverton; two sisters, Goldie Hatten, Farragut and Ruth Wenger, Rialto, CA.
