From the Notes of Maxine Graham, from the notes of Ovella Brandon Farmer:

"Dr. Richard Clifton Brandon Born May 8, 1813, Died April 24, 1894.

Buried in Fellowship Cemetery, near Gordo, Pickens County, Alabama. His headstone was furnished by cousin Willie Lowe some years after his death. Wife Mary Tirsah Bailey Brandon is buried beside him but there is no marker.

He received his sheepskin in medicine from Alabama Board of Medical Examiners in 1845. Dr. Ruben Searcy of Tuscaloosa was one of the three board members. Opal Eamer Boston (a great grandaughter) has the original sheepskin. Dr. Brandon practiced medicine in Pickens County, Alabama, northeast of Gordo and his wife practiced with him. The Civil War left the community destitute and they gave their services for the good of the people and received a bucket of syrup, a few potatoes, a bag of corn or a few vegetables as pay in many instances. The Masonic Lodge at Reform gave them a small stipend in their old age. He was a Master Mason and Worshipful Master of Fellowship Lodge No. 172 of F. & A.M. of Alabama, Reform, Alabama."
