On August 12, 1717, Edith Gist was left personalty in the will of her great uncle, Richard Cromwell of Baltimore County (Balt. Co. Md. Wills 14, p. 396, Hall of Records, Annapolis)

The account of Gist Vaughn, administrator of Abraham Vaughn, June 4, 1770, charges himself with the inventory of the deceased as appraised to his mother, Edith Vaughn. The children mentioned in the settlement of the estate were Gist Vaughn, Thomas Vaughn, Christopher Vaughn, Millicent Vaughn, Abraham Vaughn, Richard Vaughn, Reuben Boreing, part of wife's share, and Zebediah Cox, wife's share. He was listed as a Hunter in Capt. Christopher Gist's Company in Virginia in 1755. (Va. Mag. Hist. & Biog. Vol 2, pp. 44-46). He was mentioned by his uncle, Christopher Gist, in a letter written to George Washington, on July 30, 1756, as in command after Deserters. He was appointed Major, Baltimore Co, Militia, 1757. (Arch. Md. XLIII, 163). On January 18, 1768, Gist Vaughn, planter, Baltimore County, sold to John Moore, miller, part of lot No. 16, in the plat of Jones Town, (I think this is now Fell's Point, Baltimore) beginning at the corner of part of lot lately sold to Reuben Boreing. He was appointed Lieutenant, Baltimore County, Militia, 1777. (arch. Md. XVI, 105). Signed Oath of Fidelity, 1778, Baltimore County. in 1786, he laid out the Town of Hampstead located on a tract called Spring Garden, originally patented to Dutton Lane in 1748.

First of all recommending my soul into the hands of God Almighty, who gave it, hoping for salvation through the merits and intercession of our Blessed Redeemer, and my body to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my two daughters, etc. She mentions her sons, John, Thomas, Joshua and Daniel Gist; grandson Independent, son of Mordecai Gist, to each and every one of them, the sum of one shilling, Maryland currency, to be paid by her daughters; her grandson David Richard Gist, one feather bed and competent covering to it, to be yielded to him by her daughters Elizabeth and Rachel Gist. whom she appointed guardians to take care of same far his use so long as he continues to live with them; his (David Richards) father, David; the residue of her estate to her two daughters, Elizabeth and Rachel. To my wife, Penelope Dye Gist, all that part of land called Nicholsons Manor including the dwelling plantation I now live on, containing 360 acres, also the land called Final Settlement, adjoining the same, containing 3-1acres; Also one other tract called Mount Pleasant, containing, containing 19-1acres, granted to Benjamin Price. He bequeathed to his wife half of all the household furnishings, farm utensils, negroes, and a house and lot in the City of Baltimore, fit Steward Street, adjoining Walkers Tavern, and 400 pounds of current money; to his nephew, States Gist of Mordecai he bequeathed Deer Park, of 313 acres lying in Baltimore Co.; to his nephew David Gist, 118 acres in Frederick Co. called the Resurvey on Lime Pit; to his nephew, Thomas Gist, of Joshua (son of Joshua), all that land in Baltimore Co., called Surveyor's Discovery, containing 254 acres; to the children of my brother John, 100 acres of land, part of Ladys Manor, called Lot 92, Jesse to have 1New Britain; This I give to the Meeting House called Tiptons, if they occupy it for ten years, if not, to Thomas, the son of David Gist, and to my beloved nephew Thomas, son of David, I give the residue of my estate.
