The Moore’s migrated to Arkansas in late 1869, sometime after the 1870 census was taken, for the 1870 census shows them in Gwinnett County Georgia. Records show the Moore’s in Arkansas prior to 1870. Willis Moore moved to Gwinnett County, Georgia from Cumberland County, North Carolina sometime between 1815 and 1820. The last child born to Willis and Elizabeth in North Carolina was Catherine in 1815, and the 1820 census shows them in Gwinnett County.
Willis and Elizabeth had eight children, five born in North Carolina and three were born in Georgia. Of the eight children, four have been traceable, Isham, Elizabeth,
Catherine and Sarah Ann. Elizabeth and Catherine married brothers, Miles and Jeptha Langley respectfully. Isham and Sarah married brother and sister, Charlotte Caroline and John G. Bennett. A newspaper clipping found in the Bennett family bible shows that Willis and Elizabeth Moore originally came from Virginia.
After moving to Arkansas, the Moore’s bought land in Franklin Couinty, in the Altus, Alix and denning area, and in west Johnson County in the Coal Hill area. The early Moore’s were farmers, most of them, owning their own land or either working on the family farm.
