Descendants of William Ball

Generation No. 14

17. ROBERT DAVID14 CAMPBELL (MARTHA PATSY13 GLASCOCK, JOHN MILTON12, GEORGE11, ESTHER10 BALL, RICHARD9, WILLIAM8, WILLIAM7, WILLIAM6, JOHN PARIS5, JOHN PARIS4, WILLIAM3, ROBERT2, WILLIAM1) died Abt. 1826 in Bibb Co., AL. He married CHARITY YOHOLO in Franklin Co., GA.

Notes for C
HARITY YOHOLO:
It is possible David's wife was named Charity because, it was known that "three Campbell's appeared in Bibb County by 1825, Aaron, David (and Charity) and Elijah (and Lizzie
Kemp)". Also, David's wife may have died in childbirth or from a disease because when David died in 1926, their children, Acy, Lacy and John were left orphans.
(Martha Cross Mordecai, 2003)

Information Sources: Old Shelby County Courthouse (now used by the Shelby County Historical Society)

Tax records for Lower Yellow Leaf precinct give info on who lived there.

General outline of what Blackwell's Marauders did during the Civil War is in the Standard History of Chilton County.

There is a copy restricted study on file at the Samford University Archives by a local historian which gives the tale of James Cobb's death more detail. There are also service records of Captain Cobb and Lt. Col. West.

There was an article in Birmingham News in June 1992 regarding Senator Shelby's return to the Cobb Confederate Cemetery. This reunion takes place every year on the weekend closest to the anniversary of James Cobb's death.

Location of Cobb Confederate Cemetery: In Alabama between Montgomery and Birmingham off I-65 Jemison Exit to downtown Jemison (Chilton Co.), ... come to Municipal Bldg. on perpendicular street, ... turn right. Drive to the High School (on left) turn right on County Rd. 51. Go all the way (abt. 3 or 4 miles) until you cross over I-65. Turn left almost immediately onto a dirt road. Follow dirt road about 2 miles. At the end of the road on a hill to the right is the old cemetery. It is surrounded by a wrought iron fence. The gate opens, as there is no lock.

Bibb County: was originally created as Cahawba County by the Alabama Territorial Legislature on 1818 Feb. 7. Alterations were made to the boundaries in 1818, 1819, 1820, 1821 and 1867. The county name was changed to Bibb on Dec. 4, 1820, in honor of Alabama's first governor, William Wyatt Bibb.

John Glasscock (local historian) 1 (205) 688-4343. John is an expert on the stories of the Cobbs and Thames history of Bibb Co., AL.
