Notes for A
LICE PARALEE SHELBY:
This photo is of Alice Paralee Shelby Love (and possibly Ruby, Sybil or Alice Berry) at the old Homeplace on 1st Ave. So., between 18th and 19th Sts., Birmingham, AL. Ebzan worked as an engineer on the L& N Railroad for a time and the rr tracks ran behind the house. When I was a child Mama Love (Estelle Brown Love) and Pappy Daddy (Leo Shelby Love) lived in this house. Pap worked as a railroad engineer all of his life. I, and other grandkids would stay with my grandmother while my grandfather was "out on the road" to keep her company. I loved to hear the train whistle blow during the night. When he would pass the old house during the daytime on his train, he would always blow the horn so we could run to the window and wave. We would almost break our necks running through the house to wave and blow a kiss to him before he passed out of sight.
