1. JOSHUA1 HINSON1,2 was born Bef. 17553, and died Abt. 1814 in Richmond County, Virginia4. He married ? CLAYTON? Abt. 1774 in prob. Richmond County, Virginia, daughter of WILLIAM CLAYTON.

OSHUA HINSON:
July 1, 1771, Joshua purchased land in Lunenburg Parish, Richmond County, Virginia from Roger BECKWITH.

In 1773 he is on the Rent Roll for King George County, Virginia.

In 1787 he is on the census for Richmond County, Virginia.

1807 he purchased 100 acres in Richmond County, Virginia from Daniel and Mariah CARMICHAEL, mentioned in his will and given to his son, James.

The 1810 census for Henrico County, Virginia lists him as 45+ years old. It also lists other HINSON'S in Henrico County, Richmond City, Va. at the time. They are:

The will of William CLAYTON recorded in Westmoreland County in 1783 bequeaths land to Joshua.

In The Name of God amen. I Joshua HINSON of Richmond County and Parish of Lewningburg being very sick and weak of body but in perfect sence and memory do make and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner and form as followeth first I bequeath my Soale to almighty God that gave it me in apureance and certain hope of a joyful resurrection at the last day and my body to the earth from whence it came to be buried in such decent manner as my Executors hereafter named shall think fit and as for what worldly Estate it hath pleased God to bless me with I give and bequeath as followeth --
Item I give and bequeath to my son William HINSON, the track of land cal'd Mozingoes joinning REAMY and the lands cal'd Weeks and Beachworths to him and his heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath to my son James HINSON that track of land lately bought of Daniel CARMICLE formily cal'd Weeks to him and his heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath to my son Presley HINSON, that Track of land formil cal'd bensons joinning Wm. GUTRIDGE and Wm. HINSON, to him and his heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter in law Mary HINSON wife of my son John HINSON, decsd. during her life or widowhood the Track of land over the Mill joining SISSON, REAMY and Wm. HANSON (or HINSON) and at her Death to her son Austin HINSON him and his heirs forever.
Item I bequeath to my Daughter Ann HINSON the Track land I now live on formaly cal'd beachworths and the Mill during her life and then to be divided between my two Grand sons and my Grand Daughters Yelly HINSON, George HINSON and Caty HINSON, and theires forever.
Item I bequeath to my Daughter Sarah JONSON, ten pounds to be paid out of my estate. Item I bequeath to my Daughter Mary HINSON, one feather bed and furniture one chest and spinning wheale.
Item I bequeath to my Grand Daughter Lucy HINSON one feather bed and furniture.
Item I bequeath to my Grandaughter, Cata HINSON one feather bed and furniture.
Item I bequeath to my Daughter Ann HINSON one feather bed and furniture.
Item I bequeath to my son James HINSON the feather bed and furniture that George lies on now, the feather bed I now lie on I bequeath to Yelly HINSON and George HINSON at my death and the longest lives to take it forever. The remaining part of my Estate after my Just is paid to remain with my Daughter Ann HINSON during her life and then to be devi. between Yelley HINSON, George HINSON and Cata HINSON. I constitute, appoint and ordain my two sons William HINSON and James HINSON and my friend Aleck SANDERS, Executors of this my last Will and Testament. In Testamony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seale this Second day of January one thousand Eight hundred and twelve.

This last will and Testament of Joshua HINSON decd. was presented in court by Aleck SANDERS one of the Executors named in the said will who refusing to qualify as an Executor to the said will proved the same as a witness which was submitted to record as to the personal Estate devised therein and on the motion of William HINSON one other of the Executors named in the said will who took the oath and entered into bond according to law-a certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
