MMET NEY PATTIE:
"Manassas Journal" newspaper, dated May 25, 1906:

Mrs. F. H. SANDERS, Misses Nellie and Pearl SANDERS and Mr. Emmet PATTIE were town visitors Wednesday.

Emmet was a merchant and operated his own store at Catharpin, Va. from 1910 to 1943. He also operated a grist mill at the same place.
The book "My Lynn Families" has the dates of birth and death for Emmit as Jan. 2, 1880 birth, and Jan. 4, 1947 death.
He died at home at Catharpin, Va.

"Manassas Messenger" newspaper, dated Friday, January 10, 1947:

EMMET NEY PATTIE
Emmet Ney PATTIE passed away January 2, 1947, at his home in Catharpin, following a long ilness of one year and 10 months.
The deceased was the eldest child of the late Luther Benjamin PATTIE and his wife, Harriet Rebecca LYNN. He was born at Rock Hall Farm, January 8, 1880. After going to Groveton and Catharpin schools in his boyhood, he attended a business school at Brentsville, and later continued his studies at Shenandoah College, Reliance, Va.
In 1901, he began his career in the retail grocery business at Reliance, where he was manager of the store of Ira K. Gruver.
On January 29, 1902, he was married to Miss Blanche Eskridge WILKINS, daughter of William Henry WILKINS and his wife, Mary Eleanor CUSHING, of Marble Hill. A few years later he was employed in the store of E. H. Hoffman of Front Royal.
In 1905, he and his wife returned to Catharpin where he became a partner to his uncle, Mr. Frederick H. SANDERS, in the mercantile business.
In 1910, he erected a store building and began business for himself, which he continued until his health began to fail a few years ago. He was employed at the Firestone store in Manassas when stricken by his final illness in February, 1945.
His genial personality won for him many lasting friendships. He kept a record of everyone who came to see him during his invalidism and they numbered many over a thousand.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Margaret ADAMS and Mrs. Mary Cullen WATERS of Manassas, and Mrs. Catherine CONNER of Catharpin; two sons, Robert Lee PATTIE, of Manassas, and Luther Edward PATTIE, of Triangle; two grandchildren, Pattie Lynn ADAMS and Currell Lee PATTIE; one sister, Mrs. Edmonia DAVIS of Catharpin; two brothers, Nestor Currell PATTIE, of Falls Church, and Luther Jett PATTIE, Sr., of Catharpin; seven nieces and four nephews.
The deceased was a member of the Sudley Methodist Church. Because of the absence of the minister, the services were conducted at Baker's Funeral Home in Manassas by the Rev. H. E. HUDGINS, pastor of Grace Methodist Church on January 4, his 67th birthday.
The pallbearers were his nephews, Luther Jett PATTIE, Jr. and John Franklin PATTIE, Sr. of Triangle, Thomas Gordon PATTIE of Catharpin; his cousins Charles Craig LYNN, Jr. of Manassas, Robert Winfield ALVY of Catharpin; and Rolf Kimble ELLISON of Catharpin.
Interment was in Sudley Cemetery, where his grave was covered with beautiful flowers, and many flowers were sent to the home in token of sympathy.
Among the many beautiful selections read, we repeat, by request, Robert Louis Stevenson's "Epitaph":

Under the wide and starry sky,
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.

This be the verse you grave for me:
Here he lies where he longed to be,
Home is the sailor, from the sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.
