Notes for E
STHER WARREN PATTIE:
The doctor listed in the birth records is B. F. IDEN, M. D. She was born at 11:00 a.m.

Esther Warren graduated from Stuart Hall in Staunton, Virginia in 1932. Stuart Hall was and still is a private school. At the time that Esther went there it was a school for girls, but recently it has become co-ed.
She was raised in Manassas, Prince William County, Virginia. Her father Lewis Frank PATTIE committed suicide at home when she was only 4 years old.
After marrying Murray W. BRADSHAW they lived in Rockville, Maryland where together they opened a Western Auto store which sold a variety of products including auto parts, fishing and hunting supplies, bicycles and toys, and also had a repair shop where they installed batteries, tires, snow chains, etc.
"Pattie", as she was called, had an alcohol problem which eventually led to her heart problem that caused her death. You have to wonder if seeing her fathers' suicide at such a tender age could have been a horror she couldn't escape.
She died when her daughter was only 4 years old. (Ironic, huh?!)

Warthen and Ward, builders
Significance:
The construction of homes in Veirs' Addition to Rockville took place between 1887 and 1937. These homes reflect a wide range of compatible vernacular styles that make this a desirable neighborhood today.
History and Support:
...This 2½ story T-shaped, brick period home with "Tudor" details, constructed in 1937, was the last building constructed in this subdivision. Its style, massing, and siting were designed to compliment the older homes.
This house, like several of the later houses in Veirs Addition, was built by the second generation of families who had been raised in the neighborhood and who desired a home in this familiar and convenient. Joseph A. "Doc" STIMEK and his wife Lorene GARRETT, whose family lived at 19 Wall St. wanted to live in the same area and they purchased the left half of lot #3 and in collaboration with builders Warthen & Ward designed this period home.
Dr. and Mrs. STIMEK sold the house in 1946 when they moved down the block to occupy the old GARRETT Cottage. From 1946 to 1970, the Murray BRADSHAW family lived here. Mr. BRADSHAW was a City Councilman from 1948-1954. The BRADSHAW's added the mudroom and the garage.
