Notes for R
ICHARD KENDRICK BRADSHAW:
When he was a child his nickname was "Dickie Do" (Dickie do this, Dickie do that).

Dick went to high school at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, Maryland. He played on the football and baseball teams. After high school he graduated from the University of Maryland.
After he graduated from college he went to work for General Foods Corp. and he and his wife, "Dodie" bought their first home in Rockville, Maryland. He was transferred shortly after that and they moved to Delaware. From there they have lived in New York and Massachusetts where they live now.
After an early retirement from General Foods, Dick had settled on finishing his working years as an insurance representative for the Prudential Insurance Company in Massachusetts until he decided to become his own boss at the age of 62. He is starting his own insurance brokerage.

Notes for M
ARY ANN "DODIE" PHELPS:
Dodie was raised in Gaithersburg, Maryland. When Dodie and Dick first met, she didn't like him at all. He would go over to her house and sit with her parents when she would be going on a date. Eventually, she gave in and went out with him, probably to get him off of her back, the rest is history.
Her nickname came from an old song that was sung when she was a child. These were the words:
Mares eat oats,
And does eat oats,
And little lambs eat ivy.
Kids'll eat ivy too,
Wouldn't you?
This is the way everyone sang it:
Maresy dotes and oatsy dotes
And little lambsie divey
Kiddle-de divey do wouldn' chew?!

Birth announcement in the newspaper:
Mr. and Mrs. Murray W. BRADSHAW, of Rockville, Md., have announced the birth of a daughter, Ann Wickliffe, at Garfield Hospital, Washington, on Thursday, June 19. Mrs. BRADSHAW is the former Miss Esther Warren PATTIE.
Named after her maternal grandmother Ann Stewart Hynson PATTIE, whoever wrote the name on the birth certificate put an "e" on the end of the first name by accident.

In January of 1952, at the age of 4½, Anne started attending Mrs. Carpenter's Day School on South Washington Street, Rockville, Md. Upon her leaving to go to public school, this letter was sent home to her father by her teacher, Mrs. Helen McKay:

Ann Bradshaw
One day, not long ago - when Ann finished reading - and beautifully twice - an article on the Barnum and Bailey-Ringling Bros. Circus - In "Time" - I whispered to her - "Who taught you to read?" She looked at me in surprise - "Well, I guess you did - I was practically born here" (I am guilty of the sin of pride when I hear Ann read.) She was right. Here was born Ann - the reader - Ann - the writer - Ann the speller - Ann the "Arithmeticer". We are as proud of our part in all these births as you and her mother have every right to be of producing her. I know her mother would be very proud of her "Wee Wick."\
In our conference we'll talk about the Arithmetic. I want you to know that at any time - there is the slightest indication that Ann needs help - maybe a pinning down - I am available for help. Please - call me - before she really has trouble.\
I feel she is well cushioned for 4th grade arith. At first she may find herself superior - but it's not one of her loves - she may need the kind of help I can give her - because I know her.
It has been a privilege to have Ann.
School business is not as cold as real business - because one deals with children. So, I can say - what would be frowned upon in real business. I think you have been - you are - a wonderful parent. You have been both father and mother to Ann. You have been wise and gentle. At no time did Ann feel (as she might have, had you not been so - on the job - ) the insecurity of not having - Mother.
Thank you for trusting Ann to us.
Remember - I shall be always interested in her progress and always glad to help. \

Sincerely,
Helen McKay

Anne's first name was misspelled all the way through her school years. It's even misspelled on her high school diploma.

Anne was in Brownie Troop #668, Rockville, Md.
She graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, Maryland in June, 1965. She was in her first year of college at Montgomery Community College, Rockville, Md. when she left school to help her father with his businesses.
Her son, Michael was born during her first marriage.
When her son was born she was living in an apartment in Rockville, Md. and she was working for W. Bell & Co., a discount jewelry and household goods retailer.
The first house she bought was in Rockville, Md. at 3 Leonard Court. This is the home she was living in when she was remarried to Garry and when her daughter was born.
When their son, Michael, was going into the ninth grade she and Garry bought a new home in North Potomac, Maryland at 14037 Saddle River Drive. They lived there until they decided to build a home on the 5 acres of land that they owned in Germantown, Md., about 7 or 8 miles from where they were living at the time. When their daughter, Tamara, was going into the 10th grade they moved into their home on Germantown Road in Germantown, Md.
