Notes for W
ILLIAM MONTGOMERY SHULTZ:
William was captured at Occoquan, VA (located SE of Manassas) on December 19, 1862. The battle of Occoquan was a cavalry engagement and I had wondered how an infantryman gets captured in a cavalry engagement. A gentleman told me that it was common practice to use infantryman for guard duty. William was confined at Richmond, VA Dec. 23, 1862. He was paroled at (what looks like) City Point, VA on January 6, 1863; reported to Camp Parole, MD January 7, 1863. He was send back to the regiment as of May 15, 1863.
