Newpaper Obituary: A funeral Mass for Francis W. Eldridge, 87, of Hall Road, a retired Boston police officer, will be said at 10 a.m. today at Saint Mary's Church in Newmarket, New Hampshire. He died Friday at a nursing home in Greene, Maine. He joined the Boston Police Department in 1920 and served for his entire career with the old harbor police unit. He retired in 1945 and moved to Barrington, NH, 13 years ago. Mr. Eldridge came from a family long associated with police and law enforcement agencies. His father, Peter Eldridge, had also served with teh harbor police; a brother, Charles Eldridge, was a captain in the hackney carriage bureau at Boston police headquarters; a brother, Daniel, was known as Boston's "Flying Cop" and another brother, Paul Elsdridge, was an inspector with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.

Frank Eldridge applied for a social security number on June 29, 1944. At the time he was living at 75 Orient Ave. in East Boston, MA. Frank Eldridge was a Boston Patrol Officer. He walked the streets of Boston ensuring the safety of its citizens. Later he studied and took the exam, which he passed to become a harbor master. This job was of great pride to him the boat was named The Watchman and it patrolled Boston Harbor. Frank built a summer home in Hamilton, Ma. Later in life he built another home in East Barrington, N.H. this was used for vacations until he retired and moved there with his wife Sophie. He believed in being physically fit. He and his brother Forrest were responsible for building a church in N.H., as no Catholic church was available for the people in the area at that time. The name is The Chapel of the Nativity. It is located in Barrington, NH.

Frank is rumored to be a cousin of Edith Cavell. There is a Mount Edith Cavell in Alberta Canada.

Frank left his house in East Barrington, New Hampshire to his daughter Marie. Lauretta did not want it because it was in the country and she was a city girl. Frank also had a home in Hamilton MA.

When he was young, he helped build "Chapel of the Nativity" in Barrington, New Hampshire.
