He owned a shoe shop, John Naoum Shoe Repair on 48 Howard Street in Scollay Square, Boston. The store opened in 1923. No social security number found. The Suffolk County Courthouse was right behind the shoe shop. He Lived in the West End of Boston, 5 Milton Street and later at 73 Poplar Street. Family Legend: John was arrested for serving liquer to shoe customers during Prohibition. _____________________________________________________ Ioannis Kottas is listed as a passenger on the Megali Hellas that sailed from the Port of Piraeus, Attica, Central Greece and Euboea Greece. He arrived April 22, 1920 and was 39 years old. He was with his son (Naoum Kottas), his brother (Stavros Kottas ) and Stavro's wife (Ourania Kottas). His residence in Greece is listed as Florina. The ship's Manifest indicates that Ioannis had come once before to America, in 1913, and had stayed in Boston. He indicates he will be staying with his brother (Pereclis) at No. 23 Wall Street.
John died at age 72 from gang-green on his leg. He refused to have it amputated and is remembered saying that he wanted to die in one piece.
