Walter moved to Halltown, Ark. near Kiser, Ark abt 1932 after Dave was born, about 1934 0r 1935 he moved to section 16, Osceola, Mississippi Co., Ark. until 1939 when he located to Matthews, New Madrid Co., Missouri, where he owned two farms by East Prairie and lived out the rest of his life. In 1944 Walter built a store, which he ran, a beauty shop, restaurant, garage and movie theatre which was run by other people. According to his son Harley, Walter had a soft spot for the little children, and when they would come into the store he always had candy to give them. There was one little boy that held a special spot in his heart who was handicapped. But this little boy was happy all the time and always had a smile on his face. Walter always gave him ice cream and soda. Walter's youngest son Dave had the job of filling the soda cooler, and his father told him that when that little boy should up, he was to give him a soda. |
