When Lilian was born, her given name was Emma Shannon, but her father John Robert Shannon, was
very impressed by the talents of the actress "Lillian Gish" that they changed Emma's name to Lillian. Emma Elizabeth Mallek. She and her sisters Lucy and Clara locked themselves in the outhouse and refused to come to come until their parents agreed to let her be called Lillian for Lillian Russell. Apparently it worked.
