When Gloria became ill and was diagnosed with leukemia, the Thayer family pulled up roots and moved to New Mexico, where they heard of a doctor who could effectively treat the disease. It was unsuccessful and Gloria died there. The entire family is buried in Fairview Park Crematorium in New Mexico.
