OSEPH STANFORD:
Dr. Henry King Stanford,Jr., of Americus, GA, in a letter to Dr. E. T. Stanford, of Memphis, dated May 13, 1996 said that his forebears came from England to the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1683 with three brothers sons, Jonathan, James and Robert. Enclosed in the letter was HENRY KING STANFORD GENEALOGY, as follows:\

1. Joseph Stanford, with three brothers sons Jonathan, James, and Robert, arrived on Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1683 [copied from Family Bible in1845].\

2. Jonathan Stanford was two years old when he arrived with his father in 1683

3 Joshua Stanford, born in 1740, married Mary Rooks and moved to Warrenton, Warren County, Georgia (near Augusta), after the American Revolution.

4. Levin Stanford married Elender Mc Ghee and moved to Putnam County, Georgia (about 50 miles northeast of Macon)

5. Herod King Stanford, born July 16, 1819 (imagine naming a little boy "Herod"!), married Louisa J. Weaver, and practiced medicine in Waverly Hall, Georgia (near Columbus), died April 4, 1886.

6. Edwin J. Stanford married Lula Harrison.

7. Henry King Stanford, Sr., born September 23, 1876, in Waverly Hall and died December 16, 1923 in Atlanta; married Anna Belle Callaway.

8. Henry King Stanford, Jr. (I never never used the "junior"), born April 22, 1916; married Laura Ruth King, September 19, 1936.

Note A.: Henry said there is a crossroads in Putnam County Called Stanfordville (also known as "Devil's Half Acre") but there are only two houses standing there today.
