The primary source of these Notes and the accompanying detailed family data is "History of Haskell County, Oklahoma" as researched by Stanford Orrick of Fort Worth, TX 1n 1996. Stan kindly provided me with his research notes by letter dated Sept 11, 1997.

Joseph Edgar Stanford was born in Waldron, AR 9 Dec 1891, the elder of two children born to Acril and Flora (Sorrels) Stanford. After the 1893 death of Acril, Flora remarried and moved to McCurtain, Indian Territory.

Joseph's mother died when he was 14. He was then sent to to Live with his grandparents, James C. and
and Sara T. Stanford in Fayetteville, AR. There Joseph completed work in Veterinary Medicine, then returned to McCurtain where he met and married and married a school teacher L. Myrtle Smith on 19 March 1915. They had four Children as enumerated on the reverse side Family File.

Dr. Stanford was Mayor of Stigler, OK and a 32nd Degree Mason. His uncle, Dr. John Fred Stanford of Fayetteville, AR was also a veterinarian, died at the age of 80. Joseph's wife, Myrtle, died at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City 28 November, 1976. Both are buried in Stigler Cemetary.
