ARGARET BURKE:
The woman on the far left in the picture is Margaret Burke Boyatt (my Great Grandmother and
granddaughter of Jonathan Burke and Nancy Cooper). Her parents were John Granville Burke and Anna Blevins. The lady next to her is my great aunt Lola Foster who married Elisha Boyatt (standing to her left). We are not sure who the man on the far right is. It
may be one of Elisha's brothers.???? This picture was taken on Lola and Elisha's wedding day March 15, 1915 in Scott County, TN. You can really see the Cherokee in Margaret. She was a beautiful woman.
ENJOY!!

Notes for J
OHN (JOHNNY) COOPER:
According to his son's Indian roll application, John Cooper was born in Dade Co., Georgia and died October 1905. In 1870, he was living with his new wife Nancy and their new baby Sarah, one month old, in Sulphur Springs, DeKalb Co., three houses away from Elizabeth (Forrester) Sizemore, 67, his grandmother. By 1880, the family had moved to Fractional Township on Sand Mountain between Daniel Shrader, 82, a cooper (barrel maker), and Peter Cooper, 37, who was his cousin. Sarah Cooper, 18, a step-daughter, was also in the household (born Kerby, later Sallie Wells).
John Cooper bought 80 acres of land in Jackson County, 2 October 1885, E1/2 of NE1/4 of Section 29 T4S R9E, 7 acres residue part of SE1/4 of SE1/4 and 37 acreas part of NE1/2 of SE1/4 of the same section, altogether 124 acres, plus on the same date a residue in S30 of DeKalb Co. On March 20, 1886 he bought more acreage in Sec. 30 Tsp. 4S Range 9E. All this lay between Rosalie in Jackson Co. and Pea Ridge in DeKalb. Some of the land was apparently purchased under the Homestead Act; Cooper's certificate was #3967. He deeded 40 acres to his son James J. Cooper on November 4, 1901. His neighbor was Daniel Shrader. Other land owners were Zilmon Williams (his son's brother-in-law), William B. Kerby (his step-son) and Henry Blevins (cousin). This area was called Fractional Township and straddled the county line. Shrader's mill was located there, near the source of Bryants Creek, which flowed into Johnson Creek in nearby Pisgah, and the Wills Valley Railroad came through after the Civil War. Rosalie was the closest "place." It was a combination of meadow land and sandy loam, perfect for farming.
On August 20, 1894, John Cooper deeded 80 acres in DeKalb County for $100 to his wife, Nancy E. Cooper (E 1/2 NE 1/4 S30 T4S R9E --Reverse Deed Book 3, page 69). Nancy Cooper had bought 40 acres in the same Section on June 2, 1884, and other land there under the Homestead Act on Nov. 20, 1884. John Cooper had entered into ownership October 2, 1885 (certificate 3967). She died shortly after the reverse deed. Some if not all the land had already been repossessed by the government in 1891. This was the original homeplace of Jackson Cooper after the Civil War, John's father. Jackson Cooper died in Shellmound on Sand Mountain in Tennessee.
Johnny Cooper remarried to Jayne -------- and was living after Nancy's death in 1900 with John S. Henegar, his sister-in-law (?) Emily's husband, on Mount Pisgah, Jackson County. The town of Henegar was named after this family, originally Cherokee.

Notes for
--------- YORK:
Johnny Cooper's first wife was said to be a York. In 1866 Enoch York, Sr. and Enoch York, Jr. were neighbors of his father, Jackson Cooper, on Sand Mountain. The Sarah "Baby" Cooper born 1869 was probably her child, as John's second wife, Nancy Bundren, already had a Sarah.

Neighbors were Leas, Millicans and Sizemores. In the 1866 Alabama State Census, a Nancy Cooper is living alone as head of household with two small sons in DeKalb Co., T4 R10E. Nancy did not get married to Johnny Cooper until July 1869.

Notes for J
AYNE SHRADER:
She may have been a Henegar. On them: As you may know, the Henegars were German Palatine
immigrants. LDS records contain the name Conrad Henninger who
married to Maria Rosina Graber in Baden, Heidelberg, Germany
in 1690. I think this was the father of the original immigrant,
Conrad Henninger who arrived on the ship, Britannia, on Sept. 21,
1731.They left Germany for Holland, where they spent a couple of
years before coming to America. I don' t know who you are or how
much research you have done, but I've done a book on the
Henegars of PA, MD, NC and finally, TN. Good luck. Sharon
