16. Sanford⁴ Bennett (William M.³, Joshua², Jehu¹) was born December 30, 1834, and died 1863. He married Catherine Yates July 16, 1854 in Orange Co., Indiana.

Notes for Sanford Bennett:
When their children were all very young, Catherine died, and Sanford went into the Civil War. He returned from the war in 1863 with a severe case of the measles, from which he soon died. The children were taken into homes of relatives and friends to be raised. Melissa was taken into the home of Carr Apple, a friend of the family, where she grew to womanhood - and married Carr's son, Lon Apple. Beckie was raised by her uncle James Bennett.
