  Notes for William Bennett:
The Bennetts seemed to have a weakness for hard liquor, and many serious quarrels and fights resulted - one such incidental to the cutting of William, the ninth son of Samuel Bennett and Mary Jane Sands, by Tuck Hawkins. William received a great gash at the back of his neck, which led to his death shortly afterward.

Notes for Barbara Bennett:
One of the anecdotes often heard about William's daughter, Barbara, is that she was married six times, and said she wanted to "have seven husbands." She married William Gray, and the story is told that after the wedding, the couple took all their worldly possessions and themselves on one horse, and moved into an old house without a stove, or any furniture-using a big, flat rock in the middle of the floor to build a fire upon, in order to keep warm.
