Leo Casburg Wise and 9. Mary Edith Wooldridge. He married 5. Alice Dorlene Patterson February 20, 1954 in St. Phillip Neri Church, Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky.

      5. Alice Dorlene Patterson, born June 19, 1929 in Newt, Green County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of 10. Orius Leek Patterson and 11. Edna Mae Tucker.

Joseph N. Wise, Sr.

Former Corydon accountant Joseph N. Wise, Sr., 69, died Friday, April 2, at 1:11a.m. at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.

A native of Vine Grove, Ky, born August 29, 1929, he was the son of Leo Casburg and Mary Wooldridge Wise.

He was an Air Force veteran of World War II, an ordained Baptist minister, founder and member of Blue River Baptist Church near Depauw, and a chaplain for the Harrison County Sheriff's Dept. He was a retired accountant for Reyman and Wise, L.L.P. in Corydon.

Wise volunteered for the Harrison County Chaplains Association 2-1/2 years ago and was assigned to the Harrison County Justice Center jail. Senior chaplain Richard Goodwin of Elizabeth said Wise worked closely with Brother Bob Brown and the Rev. Ed Beedle and Gilbert Doley in ministering to the inmates on a regular basis. Wise taught weekly Bible study and was in charge of special functions, like the Christmas basket program. He was responsible for the many baptisms that have taken place recently at the jail, and he had a special bond with several prisoners there.

Wise was "an excellent evangelist," Goodwin said.

Survivors include his wife, the former E. Anne Estes; three sons, Joseph Wise, Jr. and Jeffrey and Scott Dixon, all of Depauw; six daughters, Laura Bivin of Elman, N.Y., Mary Julianne Warpenburg of Mooresville, Cydnie Tretter of Dunedin, Fla., Victoria Hayford of Bloomington, Suzette McCarty of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Joanna M. Campbell of Jeffersonville; three brothers, Elwood Wise of Eckarty, John Wise of Louisville, and Kenneth Wise of Laconia; a sister Algene Eberenz of Louisville; 13 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The funeral was Monday at Blue River Baptist Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery in Taswell. Love Funeral Home in Palmyra handled the arrangements. The eulogy was given by the Rev. Paul Powell of Ramsey Baptist Church, and the Rev. Don McCarroll of Blue River Baptist Church also spoke.
     
The family suggests memorial gifts to Bibles for jail Ministry, in care of Anne Wise, or to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
