More About John Wimsatt:
Date born 2: Abt. 1730

  Notes for Henrietta Medley:
[John Wimsatt.FTW]

Could Henrietta possibly be a Medley? Elizabeth Medley left property to nephews Robert and William Wimsatt and to Ann Wimsatt and Prissy Wimsatt. Or is she related through Ignatius who married Eleanor Medley.

Children of John Wimsatt and Henrietta Medley are:
448 i.   Raphael Wimsatt, born October 01, 1753 in St. Mary's Co., Maryland; died May 25, 1828 in Nelson Co., Kentucky; married Susanna Cissell 1783 in St. Mary's Co., Maryland.
ii.   John Wimsatt, born Abt. 1751.
iii.   Stephen Wimsatt, born Abt. 1752; married Mary Low August 25, 1770 in St. Mary's County, Maryland.
  Notes for Stephen Wimsatt:
[John Wimsatt.FTW]

It has been suggested in numerous references by family descendants through out the years that Raphael Wimsatt came into Kentucky with two brothers. He came into Kentucky with Stephen and Joseph, therefore it is assumed that they are Raphael's brothers even though I have no Maryland records to back it up at this time.

It is a fact that the Stephen who came to Kentucky with Raphael was a grown man. On April 22, 1796, he bought land from Coleman and Catherine Brown with Robert Abell, Basil Hayden, Sr., et al, for use as a Catholic Church. (St. Charles Catholic Church and Cemetery were built on this land in St. Mary's. Now in Marion Co., KY. (This from Hamilton and Allied Families by Sis. Mary Donnelly.)

In 1804 he, Basil Hayden, John Dant, John Lawrence, et al, sold farmland to Rev. Stephen T. Badin in Washington Co., Ky. (Nelson County was the original county, from it was taken land then deemed Washington Co., in 17--, then in 17-- Marion County was formed from the southern land in Washington Co.) This latter farmland became St. Steven's Farm and is the Mother house and grounds of the Sisters of Loretto. (Info. found in Buckman family history at the Bardstown Library with verifying copies of deeds.)

iv.   William Wimsatt I, born May 16, 1757.
  v.   Elizabeth Wimsatt, born November 14, 1759; married Medley.
vi.   Robert Henry Wimsatt, born May 09, 1762; married Margaret Mattingly?.
vii.   Ann Wimsatt, born December 27, 1764.
viii.   Priscilla Wimsatt, died October 23, 1790 in St. Mary's Co., Maryland; married (1) George Knott; married (2) Luke Mattingly November 29, 1744 in St. Mary's Co., Maryland; born 1702 in St. Mary's Co., Maryland; died 1789 in St. Mary's Co., Maryland.
  Notes for Priscilla Wimsatt:
Wimsatt.FTW]

There was an older Pricilla Wimsatt, noted by Father Walton as being a parishioner at St. Inigoes in 1774. She was most likely the sister of Joseph Wimsatt (1803), Will book JJ#3, p. 18, 1803-1820, in the Leonardtown Court House, Md, whom he names as his heir, his sister, "Pricilla Cambron" living in Kentucky. And he leaves her property which he owns both in Maryland and in Kentucky so this Joseph must have been in Kentucky prior to 1803, bought property and returned to Maryland. He may have been the Joseph who came into Kentucky in 1788 with Raphael. Pricilla, Raphael's sister, was probably named after her. Therefore it is likely that John had a sister named Pricilla and a brother named Joseph, John most likely having preceded him in death.

Name 2: Pricilla Wimsatt

  Notes for Luke Mattingly:
One source attributes a daughter named Priscilla, to his second wife, born about 1752. Matney family researchers almost all agree that Luke had a son named Clement who was the originator of the Matney line (born 2-14-1739 & died 1-23-1838 in Brown County, Indiana). Rev. Herman Mattingly mentions no daughter named Priscilla or son named Clement.

      898. James Cissell, born Abt. 1721 in St. Mary's Co., Maryland; died Abt. 1785 in St. Mary's Co., Maryland. He was the son of 1796. James Cissell. He married 899. Elizabeth Abt. 1746 in St. Mary's Co., Maryland.

      899. Elizabeth, born Abt. 1725 in St. Mary's Co., Maryland.
