On Oct.1, 1696, one John Perry (note spelling), from Chester County,Pennsylvania, and two partners, all three from Tipperary, Ireland, and all apparently in the colonies for some years, purchased 50,000 acres of land in the Alloway, New Jersey area.
John had four sons: John Peery and his wife Mary; Samuel
Peery; William Peery; and Thomas Peery. (Note Spelling of
sons' names).
Thomas and descendants settled in Maryland. William and
descendants settled in New Jersey and Delaware, and nothing
is known by this writer of Samuels' descendants.
John Peery, (the oldest son of John Perry, who had purchased the land) was born in about 1640 at Loch Knofty, Tipperary, Ireland, and died in 1703 in Alloway, New Jersey. He and his wife Mary had at least one son, William Peery born in Chester County, Pa., in 1692, and living for awhile in Alloway, N.J.
William later settled in Augusta County, Virginia near what is now Staunton, Va. Nothing is known at this time of a wife for
William, but he had five sons, starting about 1715 with Thomas,
and the youngest was Joseph in about 1723, and brothers John, James and George in between.
Joseph grew up and moved to Botetourt County, Va., and the
others settled in Tazewell County, Virginia.
Beginning in the 1830's the Peery clan, from Tazewell and Botetourt counties, and other related families, such as the Wittens, Whitleys, and Thompsons, migrated to northern Missouri, in the area of Gentry and Grundy counties.
Beginning in the 1850's and until about 1900, these families
continued their migration westward to California, Oregon, and
Nebraska, and Utah.
It should be noted that while there were other Peerys who
came over from Europe and settled all up and down the east coast on a continuing basis, the above mentioned groups became the
largest group of Peerys. Over the years other Peery descendants from other Peery immigrants have married into lineages from these major Virginia and Missouri groups so that by now, most Peerys can trace at least part of their lineage to Tazewell, Va., and northern Missouri.

James C. Peery, age 46, is currently an Entertainer/Elvis impersonator and has been doing this, along with some other
occupations, for about ten years. Before doing this he was
employed with the Federal Bureau of Investigation from July
of 1973 to February of 1984.
Always wanting to be an entertainer or artist of some
kind, Mr. Peery, or Jim "Elvis" Peery as he is called professionally now, went into the FBI because he needed
to make a living. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Lloyd DeVere Peery, who spent 33 years in the Bureau, and his mother, Dorothy Marie Etherson Peery, who was also in the Bureau.
While in the FBI Jim met and married his wife, Dagmar Mariann Puusalu Peery, who was also working for the Bureau at
the time.
On leaving the Bureau to finish college and pursue other
interests, by 1990 he was beginning to re-invent himself as
Jim "Elvis" Peery, an Elvis impersonator/entertainer, thus
starting a whole new career and taking the first steps to
fulfilling a life long dream.
It just goes to show, you're never too old to start
something new.
