Phoebe Jane (Jennie) Gardner (daughter of Edward T. Gardner and Melvina Walters) was born August 24, 1866, and died October 08, 1933 in her home, Farmer, City, Illinois. She married Charles M. McMurphy on August 05, 1886 in Wilson Twp., DeWitt Cty., Illinois.

Mrs. Charles McMurphy, long time resident of this city, died at 10 a.m. Sunday at her home on East Green stret after a severe illness of five weeks. She had been in poor health for several years.
Phoebe Jane, the daughter of Edward T. and Melvina (Walters) Gardner, was born August 24, 1866 in Wilson township, DeWitt county, Ill. She passed away at the age of 67 years, one month and 14 days on October 8, 1933.
On August 5, 1886 she was united in marriage with Charles McMurphy and they continued living in that community until moving to Farmer City 32 years ago. Early in life the deceased became a memeber of Rucker Chapel Church of that community.
Five children were born to this union, four of whom survive. The are: Mrs. Conrad Wankel, of Detroit, Mich.; Cash McMurphy of the U.S. Navy and Jesse McMurphy and Mrs. Wayne Fuller of Farmer City. Also surviving are her husband and four grandchildren, Jack, Virginia, Jean and Jimmie Fuller, one brother, Frank Gardner of Farmer City, and three sisters, Mrs. Sheman Arbogast, Mrs. Charles Milton, Mrs. Herbert Harrold and Mrs. Eva Glardon.
One daughter, Mrs. Edith Behymer of Indianapolis, Ind, and a grandson, Kermit McMurphy, have preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 10, at 2:30 p.m. from the M.E. Church with Rev. Thomas H. Tull of Monticello in charge. Rev. L. P. Bear, loal pastor, was the assisting minster. Marshall Jones sang "That Wonderful Mother of Mine" and "No Night There."
Burial was made in Maple Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ora Milton, Clifford Milton, Elwood Milton, Bernard Milton, Dee Arbogast, and Garner Odell.
Beautiful floral offerings were carried by Mrs. Walter Reeser, Mrs. Robert McKinley, Mrs. Harry McKinley, Mrs. James Gearhart, Mrs. Carl Monen and Mrs. Wayne Larison.
Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Holmes and Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Cox of Decatur, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gardner and daughter of Chicago, Mr., and Mrs. Conrad Wankel of Detroit, Mich., Mr. and Mrs Fred Baldini of Bloomington, Mr. snd Mrs Clarence Price of Champaign, Mrs. Adrian Dockum and son Sherman and daughter Phyllis of Wellington, Kansas, and Mrs., Frank Cooper, Mr., and Mrs, Virgil Cooper and Mr., and Mrs, Ben Burke of near Saybrook.
