OBITUARY

      The Zionsville Times, Zionsville ( Boone County) Indiana, August 15, 1912

      After an illness of a few weeks, Mrs. Verlinda Rhoades departed this life Monday, August 5, 1912. She was born in Jennings County, Indiana January 17, 1827--85 years, 6 months and 18 days of age at the time of her death. She was united in marriage to Samuel Rhoades in December 1849. Mr. Rhoades died September 3, 1893.
      To this union were born 8 children--4 sons and 4 daughters of whom two sons and three daughters, 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and one sister are left to mourn the loss of their dear Mother and Grandmother.
      Samuel and Verlinda Rhoades had been members of the Methodist Church for a number of years before marriage.
      The funeral was held at the home in Eagle Village, Thursday conducted by Rev. Allen P. DeLong, paster of the Zionsville M.E. Church. Interment at Eagle Village Cemetery.

OBITUARY
      The Newton Press, Newton Illinois October 31, 1888

Washington Phillips died at his residence, 3 miles south of Newton, October 23, 1888, aged 59 years, 5 mo., and 18 days. Bro. Phillips was formerly from (Iowa); has resided in Jasper County the past six years. He embraced the christian religion about 25 years ago, and was a consistent member of the Methodist church until about one year ago when he made a public confession of his faith in Christ and was buried in baptism, and thence cast his lot with the Christian church, at the Christian Chapel, 4 miles north of Newton, with whom he remained faithful until his death. Brother Phillips leaves an aged companion, five sons and two daughters to mourn his death. The funeral service was conducted by the writer, on the 24th inst., at the chapel, after which the remains were gently laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery adjoining the chapel. Chas. Yelton
