Generation No. 4

      12. Otho Houlen Little, born March 28, 1905 in Texas; died February 1980 in Houston, Texas. He was the son of 24. Hulon Little and 25. Willie Ada Snider. He married 13. Carrie Mae Allen.

      13. Carrie Mae Allen, born July 11, 1911 in Louisiana; died November 29, 1999 in Houston, Texas. She was the daughter of 26. Albert O'Dell Allen and 27. Josie Sharp.

Notes for Otho Houlen Little:
I was 13 when Grandpa Little died. I remember him being a small man but feisty. He used to love coming and staying with us when we lived in Houston. Since I was the only child there he could rule the televison set during the day. He loved mother dearly. He was very sick in his last days. I don't know what was wrong, but I know his breathing was labored. He is buried by his sister Anna in Garrison, Texas at Cold Springs Cemetery.

Notes for Carrie Mae Allen:
Well, what can I say about Granny? She was a worker. She was always working inside the house, mostly cooking up enough food for a tribe. It usually was a tribe that ended up coming to see her. When all of the family got together, she insisted on doing all the cooking herself. I can remember as a child, she would make the best sorghum syrup cakes, and peanut butter fudge. She also could make the best potatoe salad that I can say I ever tasted. I have tried to copy her recipe but something is always missing. Guess now I will never know.

I remember when we all lived down in Houston and she would ride up to Jewett with us. She would get up early in the morning and start cooking. She would make homemade buttermilk biscuits and stuff them full of scrambled eggs with either bacon or sausage. We wouldn't even get out of Houston good and daddy would holler back to granny asking for one of those biscuits. They were delicious.

She thrived on her family. She had to hear from some of her family at least daily. If she didn't she would start worrying and she would call herself. She was a big woman, with a big heart. Always ready to help anyone. People always knew they could go to grannies and get a wonderful meal. I miss her dearly.

Uncle Albert and daddy started a tape and label business together in Houston. The name was Central Tape and Label. Now it is the second largest tape and label business in Houston. Johnny and I sold our part to Uncle Albert when daddy died.

He is a wonderful, church going man. He was burned as a child and had to go to the Shriner's hospital. Granny was boiling water in a big pot and he fell over backwards into the water. He still carries the scars from the burns.

  Notes for Katherine Winifred Krause:
This is the person I know as my "memaw". I can honestly say that I always knew my memaw loved me at even the worst times in my life. She used to work for Folger's Coffee Company in Houston, but after she married grandaddy (Cecil) she never had to work another day in her life. He took care of her like he always promised. She was a true lady. Tiny, frail, and dainty. Always concerned about her hair, her makeup, her looks. If I had to go somewhere she was always willing to ride with me to keep me from driving alone. She never wanted me to have to go somewhere alone in case something should happen.
She used to love to go shopping until the claudication began in her legs. She still loves to shop, but has problems even after her leg surgery. She cannot walk very far without pain in her legs. We now have a handicapped sticker just for her.

I always thought she was frail and weak until I saw her go through the triple by-pass surgery. Now, I know she is just as strong as my Grandma Krause, her mother. Memaw was in her eighties when she went through the by-pass surgery. She came out wonderful. Know I know just how stong my genes really are.

She is a wonderful support to me and to Brandon. She loves us all more than she will ever be able to put into words, and we love her just as much.
