Notes for Edmond Krause:
This man I never knew. He died before I was ever born. The stories I heard about him keeping records of when he worked for the railroad always reminded me of how my mother acquired her immaculate record keeping skills. He was German, but was born here in Texas close to what is considered New Braunsfels now. His family was one of the first families that founded Comal County. He is a person that I look up to for his strength and wisdom that he passed on to my grandmother and mother, in which I am happy they share with me.

  Notes for Mattie Bell Taylor:
This is one of the strongest women I ever knew in my life. She was a go-getter and would stand up for what she believed was right no matter how wrong she could be. She loved her family and prioritized her family above anything and everything she had. I was 13 years old when she died. There have been times in my life when I have truly wished she was there to guide me. She gave excellent advice whether you wanted to hear it or now. And you always knew she was right with what she said. She loved cooking and gardening. I remember when I was small going to Aunt Billie's to help kill chickens. It was Grandma, memaw (Katherine), mother, and Aunt Billie. I remember grandma swinging that ax chopping those chickens heads off.

I remember another time when I sprayed her with the water hose. She was going to whip me and I ran and got the water hose and doused her with water. She was so mad. Everyone else in the house was watching through the front window glass and laughing.

She was a proud woman, and was not afraid of hard work. She always wanted to help anyone that came to her door. She used to feed the homeless and would have peddler's come to the door begging for food because they knew her food was the best. She was a hero for me. One that stands out in my mind forever.
